CCW

Contrary to what the anti-gun people might try to tell you, state after state is realizing an armed citizenry reduces crime, and they are changing the laws to allow the honest citizen to carry a concealed weapon. Between 1986 and 2006 the blue on the maps indicate which states will issue such permits. If you click on the link you can see a short run animated map that shows year by year as it advances from 1986 to 2006. Here's the first and last years on that map. Big, big difference. Very interesting and good news indeed, Fish. Seems we may need those weapons if the Democrats have their way! Thanks for the e-mail concerning this. I've already drafted a post about it, and it will be up tomorrow. We need all the good news we can get.

It's no surprise which states don't have the right to carry, is it?!

Cool! ... let's hope it kind of spills over the border. We are finally getting rid of the stupid, useless gun registry that only increased crime, so it's a start.

Gayle, no, there were no surprises on the restricted states list. Iwas surprised to see Alaska was restricted in '86, but went to no restriction in '06. Vermont seems the only state to never restrict.

AB, yes Canada is enough wilderness to have dangerous beasties wandering in close to homes - then there's the two-legged ones that are the worst predators.

AGT I've yet to get my concealed carry permit for here in KY - lengthy class. So I just strap it on my side. I get a few strange looks in Wal-Mart but...

Fish,
I think there has been a lot of grassroots effort to get state governments to ease up on regs.
Here, they have conceal/carry, but
some private places won't accept it. The most surprising is the ammunition plant I used to work at.
A tad hypocritical, maybe?

Gun control they often rage
Protest upo the stage
It is a fact that guns kill
They are designed that way still

A murderer does not need a gun
They'd still kill if gun control won
The logic simply fails
So ignore their long winded gales

Just as taking away beds won't resut in birth control
Taking away guns won't result in death control.

BB, private owners do have the right to restrict access to people with guns - seems nutty to me. If I owned a business I'd prefer every honest citizen there was packing. Give the crooks something to consider.

Roxie, I think that last part sums it up. The gun grabbers don't really care what the statistics say, the key word is "control". That little word has been the cause of huge expenditures of taxpayer monies, and the decline of citizen's freedoms. They'd be more honest if they just called all such programs "Citizen Control" because that's what they're after.
